Case Study

Challenge Update the monochromatic kitchen of this 30-year-old Everett home for enhanced interest and appeal while coordinating with the home’s Asian-influenced décor.

Solution Switch out the original builder-grade cabinets for custom lyptus-wood cabinets. Introduce gray glass tile with a glass-and-stone accent strip, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and streamlined hardware.

Merge these contemporary basics with the traditional elements of an inset frame on the cabinet, mullioned glass doors, and a subway tile backsplash.

Results The effect of this kitchen makeover, seamlessly blending old and new elements, is dramatic. Placing the richly stained cabinets above and below the grays of the countertop and backsplash creates delivers a welcome visual contrast in keeping with the goals of this redesign.

The flat, mullioned-glass cabinet doors tie in with the home’s existing Asian theme, while setting them in a framed inset cabinet saves the flat door style from becoming boring.
