Urban Treehouse
Case Study
Challenge
This downtown Seattle home had sweeping views, yet the interior felt disconnected from the nature outside. The homeowners wanted a space that felt like a real treehouse—rooted, layered, and alive—while still functioning as a modern residence. The challenge was to create a cohesive design across three stories that honored nature, maximized light, and transformed everyday rooms into inviting retreats.
Solution
Treefrog Design reimagined the home as a vertical journey through the layers of a tree.
Ground Floor – Roots in Earth: Warm browns and taupes grounded the foyer, home office, guest bath, laundry, and family room, creating an earthy, stable foundation.
Second Floor – Blossoming Canopy: Wood remained a unifying element, while green accents brought energy to the kitchen, dining room, pantry, half bath, living room, and second office. Expansive new windows framed surrounding trees and the skyline, turning stair landings into light-filled pauses.
Top Floor – Light Through the Leaves: Airy whites defined the main bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet, evoking sunlight in the upper branches and creating a serene retreat.
Results
The Urban Treehouse now feels grounded yet elevated, celebrating its views and connecting the homeowners to nature at every level.
